A single pair of jeans can consume over 9,982 litres of water, equivalent to 10 years of drinking water for one person.

Manufacturing is energy intensive, finishing chemicals add cost and environmental impact, and pumice stone is a finite resource that damages machines and creates hazardous sludge.

Each pair generates 33.4 kg of CO2, with manufacturing responsible for most of it.

The sustainable future of denim finishing without the need for pumice stone

Our Denim Finishing System is a sustainable and innovative technology for wet processing during manufacture. It reduces the amount of water needed, removes the need for pumice stone, and can significantly reduce, the energy and time required whilst also reducing CO2 emissions.

Our patented XDrum™ system releases reusable XOrbs™ that are durable polymer spheres into a closed-loop denim finishing cycle, providing a lifetime alternative to pumice stone. XOrbs™ enhance mechanical action, reduce fibre damage, creasing, and dye lines, delivering superior garment quality and consistency.

Reusable, and safe, XOrbs™ enter at the start of the wash and are automatically removed before the end. The XDrum™ is engineered to hold, release, and recapture XOrbs™, collecting them back into storage at the end of each cycle ready to be used again; enabling efficient, flexible, and sustainable denim finishing.

Xeros and YILMAK Revolutionising Denim Finishing

Xeros has teamed up with YILMAK Makina, one of the world’s leading denim finishing manufacturers, in 2023 to deliver a more sustainable solution for denim. Together, they integrated Xeros’ patented XOrbs™ and XDrum™ technology into YILMAK machines—eliminating pumice stone use and cutting water, energy, and chemical consumption.

XOrbs™, durable reusable polymer beads, replace pumice completely, removing toxic sludge while reducing water use by up to 50%, energy by 35%, and chemicals by 30%. Combined with the XDrum™, this system delivers the same premium denim finish with far fewer resources.
