In a move towards reducing microplastic pollution, Xeros Technology has partnered with Donlim Group, a leading electrical appliance manufacturer, to produce Xeros’ XF3 External Microfibre Filter under license. This partnership aims to accelerate the mass production and distribution of the innovative microfibre filtration technology, designed to capture microfibres during laundry, which accounts for 35% of microplastics in the ocean. With every wash, up to 700,000 microfibres are shed, contributing to significant ocean pollution.
The XF3 External Microfibre Filter is a standalone, market-ready device that can be easily added to any washing machine. It captures up to 99% of microplastics and 80% of natural fibres, effectively preventing them from polluting waterways. Featuring a patented spinning action that dries microfibres for easy disposal, this plug-and-play filter requires no plumbing, is simple to operate, and works with any detergent. It lasts the lifetime of the washing machine and can be placed on countertops or hidden in cupboards, offering flexible positioning options.
Xeros CEO Neil Austin expressed excitement about the partnership: “This agreement with Donlim enables us to bring our filtration technology to the global market, addressing the rising demand for eco-friendly laundry solutions.” Donlim will also produce Xeros’ XF1 Internal Microfibre Filter, increasing the number of licensees to four, ensuring wider adoption of these sustainable solutions.
A Powerful Partnership
The collaboration between Xeros and Donlim marks a significant step toward sustainability in home appliances. As the owner of the Morphy Richards brand, Donlim, with over 26,000 employees and a global manufacturing footprint, brings its world-class production expertise.
This partnership goes beyond immediate production, including a strategic plan to co-market the XF3 filter and collaborate on future product development of the internal filter XF1. Together, they aim to meet the growing demand for eco-friendly products and adapt to stricter environmental regulations.
Lydia Zhu, Donlim’s Vice President of Sales, expressed: “This partnership brings together two innovative companies, focused on developing green technologies that make a real difference.”
Together, Xeros and Donlim are shaping the future of laundry.
The XF3 and the Future of Laundry
The XF3 External Microfibre Filter is set to reshape the laundry industry. As regulations around microplastic pollution tighten and consumer demand for eco-friendly solutions grows, the XF3 is positioned as a vital tool in reducing the environmental impact of washing machines. By eliminating harmful microplastics from entering water systems, Xeros’ filtration solutions offer a practical and scalable way for households to contribute to cleaner oceans and waterways.
A Path Forward
The production and global distribution of the XF3 by Donlim are expected to significantly increase its adoption, with mass production targeted for Q2 FY25. This partnership between Xeros and Donlim marks an important milestone in the journey toward sustainable home appliances. Through this collaboration, they are not just creating solutions but paving the way for a future where laundry appliances help protect the environment, ensuring that The Future of Laundry is green, responsible, and innovative.
With Donlim’s extensive experience in manufacturing and distribution, and Xeros’ unique expertise in microplastic filtration, the future of laundry is poised for an eco-friendly transformation. This partnership is more than a business agreement—it’s a commitment to reducing the environmental footprint of everyday laundry practices, making sustainability accessible to households worldwide.
